Counselling & Therapy

Having a happy fulfilling sex life is not just good for your Relationship, its also good for your health and your self-esteem.

Sex Therapy is for secure couples or individuals seeking help for dissatisfaction in  their sex lives. Most couples go through periods where sex is more or less frequent but sometimes it can be difficult to get the physical intimacy back, particularly if there are emotional blocks.

This psychosexual service delivers a carefully planned assessment and treatment programme to help adult couples and individuals, of any sexual orientation, with specific sexual concerns.  Such as:

  • Loss of desire
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Premature ejaculation
  • Dyspareunia (pain on intercourse)
  • Vaginismus (when penetration is difficult or impossible)
  • Delayed orgasm
  • Male and female orgasmic disorder
  • Compulsive sexual behaviour
  • Technology-mediated sexual interaction (TMSI) concerns

Using intense therapy based on a behavioural approach, Psychosexual Therapy (PST) is much more

directive than some counselling services. Depending on your main areas of concern, most therapy begins with an assessment phase, followed by a bespoke treatment plan designed specifically to meet your needs.

I do understand that this can be a difficult subject to discuss with a stranger but please be confident that you will always be treated with dignity and respect.  Always ensure your counsellor is a psychosexual therapist; preferable a member of COSRT.

The most common comment I hear from couples is to say that they wished they had done it sooner.

There can be a number of factors that influence how good sex feels; like being tired, having no privacy or feeling under pressure. These problems are usually short-lived and pass quickly. If you find that your problems continue for more than about 6 months, it could be a sign of a more complex sexual problem, which may need professional support.

Try not to worry, sex therapy has a very high success rate.

Sex Therapy helps couples or individuals improve their sexual experiences. Whether is it a desire to last longer, an inability to orgasm, help with re-establishing sexual behaviours or perhaps more complex trauma or addiction problems. Whatever your goals, seeking help is the first step.

For counselling to be successful, it is essential that you are absolutely sure that counselling is right for you and that you find the right therapist to  help  you. Sessions usually start by letting you explain your troubles in your own time and in your own way. There is absolutely no  pressure to open up about everything all at once. The process should only move at a pace that you are happy with.  It can often be the first time you have spoken to someone about what is going on in your life and can in itself be extremely therapeutic.

Counselling allows you to discuss your concerns in a safe and comfortable environment. Regardless of age, class, gender or sexual preference, people look for counselling for many reasons and each person's problem is different.

Looking for a counsellor can be a daunting experience. However, it can also be a really positive one.

Although I have worked with a diverse range of couples and individuals, I fully respect that each person is different and will approach seeking help in their own way. Depending on each personal experience I will tailor my support to meet your needs, not the other way around.

Counselling can be emotionally challenging but I believe with the right support, that it can be life-changing.
